Growing up in Northern Kentucky, every weekend we’d drive past the Voice of America transmitter towers on the way to my grandma’s house. Dozens of them. Blinking lights. Wires stretching across the sky like a curtain.
I didn’t know what they were. I just knew they caught my imagination every single time.
From that station, signals traveled across the entire Western Hemisphere. I got into shortwave radio not long after — writing to stations, collecting postcards and currency and language books from countries I’d never visited. I had a pen pal for every day of the month.

Years later, my dad and I started working together — he shot the photography, I built the websites. We called it Image Design Studios. That collaboration is where this all started.
I later learned the Voice of America land was donated by Powel Crosley Jr. — the Cincinnati broadcaster who believed communication should reach everyone. I have a son named Crosley. And I drive a 1952 Crosley Super Station Wagon.
